Razgovaraćemo pre svega o tome kakvu opasnost predstavljaju ideje koje su se našle u ovim sporazumima, a koji još uvek nisu na snazi, iz perspektive Internet sloboda, uz uporedni osvrt na slične tendencije u Srbiji, iako ona nije u opsegu ovih sporazuma.

Iako su pobrojani međunarodni trgovinski sporazumi najčešće predstavljeni u javnosti u pozitivnom svetlu kao rešenja koje će uklanjanjem carina i drugih vidova ograničenja slobodnoj trgovini osigurati prosperitet i blagostanje, oni su u isto vreme u poslednjih nekoliko godina izazvali opsežne proteste brojnih političkih aktera, sindikata, organizacija civilnog društva i nezavisnih kolektiva, dominantno u zemljama Evropske Unije, ali i u drugim zemljama na koje se ovi sporazumi odnose.
Najviše kritika je bilo upućeno na račun toga što ovi sporazumi za posledicu mogu imati još veću ekonomsku, političku i društvenu nepravdu. Uz to, pregovori o njima su se odvijali daleko od očiju javnosti, a u okrilju političkih i korporativnih elita. Dobar deo materije ovih sporazuma najpre je dospevao do javnosti preko Vikiliksa.
Stvar koja je privukla najviše pažnje jeste svakako uvođenje međunarodne arbitraže (Investor State Dispute Settlement) u sporovima između države domaćina i stranog investitora koji u ovoj posluje. Ukratko, ako država izmeni zakon kojim će umanjiti očekivani profit investitora, makar i u oblasti zdravlja ljudi i zaštite životne sredine, može biti tužena od investitora koji veruje da je time njegov prihod umanjen i dužna da isplati kompenzaciju.
