The Internet Society of Serbia, Belgrade Chapter began the realisation of the project ‘Air to the People 2.0’ in cooperation with the Centre for Investigative Journalism of Serbia (CINS). The main aim of the project is to build a wider community of citizens who will strive to reduce the impact of climate change and who want to actively participate in installing Klimerko – devices for measuring air quality – and, in turn, provide a greater availability and transparency of details concerning air quality in Serbia. This project has been financed by the Internet Society Foundation and Beyond the Net programme, and it will last 15 months.

During the project, we plan to develop and install up to forty new Klimerko devices and distribute them in the six most-polluted cities in Serbia. Interested citizens of Serbia may join the project by signing up for workshops and open online discussions. Members of the Internet Society of Serbia as well as the wider community across the country are also welcome to participate in developing new software and hardware solutions.

The realisation of this project began in October 2020. After CINS has processed the data collected from the field, we plan to publish it and open a call for participants interested in assembling and developing their own Klimerko devices and, through this, educate themselves concerning the importance of open data, an open Internet, open code, and open hardware, as well as air-quality control.

This call will be open from the beginning of 2021.
